![]() During February 2012, Ora was also the opening act at the UK concerts from Drake’s Club Paradise Tour. Ora featured on the single that was released on 12 February 2012, debuting at number one on the UK Singles Chart. The videos caught the attention of DJ Fresh, who at that time was looking for a female vocalist for his song, “Hot Right Now”. Throughout 2011, Ora released covers and videos about working on her debut album on YouTube. Ora signed a recording deal and a publishing deal with Roc Nation in December 2008, and was one of their first signees. She made cameo appearances in Jay Z’s video for “Young Forever” (2009) and Drake’s video, “Over” (2010). After being signed, Ora recorded an album and wanted to release it, but her label advised against it and she started to work on other material for her debut album. Shortly after, Ora’s management got in touch with the American label, Roc Nation, and told them about her. Stennett reassured her that performing in Eurovision would hinder rather than help her chances to make it as a solo artist. Her manager, Sarah Stennett (who also worked with Ellie Goulding, Jessie J and Conor Maynard), later told HitQuarters that Ora had entered the competition because at the time she felt it was her only chance at finding success. In 2008, she auditioned for Eurovision: Your Country Needs You on BBC One to be the British contestant for the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 and qualified, but later withdrew from the competition after a few episodes as she did not feel ready and thought that challenge wasn’t for her. ![]() Ora began performing at open mic sessions around London and, occasionally, in her father’s pub. She grew up in Notting Hill, in West London, and attended St Cuthbert with St Matthias Primary School in Earls Court, following which she graduated from a performing arts school, Sylvia Young Theatre School. They relocated to London, England in 1991, when she was a baby. Her family left Kosovo for political reasons, because of the persecution of Albanians initiated with the disintegration of Yugoslavia. Her surname derived from the Turkish word, saatçi, which means “watchmaker”, but her parents later added Ora (which means “time” in Albanian) to the family surname so it could be easily pronounced. Ora has an older sister, Elena, and a younger brother, Don. Her mother, Vera ( née Bajraktari), is a psychiatrist, and her father, Besnik Sahatçiu, is a pub owner, having previously studied economics. Ora was born in Pristina, SFR Yugoslavia (present-day Kosovo), to Albanian parents. She quipped: "The new iPhone! They're like, ‘So, Rita, the new iPhone came out.' I'm like, ‘I know'.Rita Sahatçiu Ora (born Rita Sahatçiu 26 November 1990) is an English singer, songwriter and actress. On what her parents last called her for, she said they both want her to buy them the latest iPhone. And now they're happy and healthy, they do not leave me alone! They call me every five minutes, I'm like, ‘Go away!'" I wanted to create a world where I was untouchable, I could basically have whatever I wanted and give my parents whatever they wanted. That was my driving force for a long time. "I was like, ‘I want to make loads of money so I can make sure that they're happy'. (When the family first arrived in Britain) my dad was working three jobs at once and my mum didn't speak any English and was learning how to be a doctor and beating breast cancer all at the same time," said the singer, who is also an actress. She said her parents, Vera and Besnik, are the "driving force" behind her wish to "make loads of money" from her career, because she wanted to make sure they never have to work again after sacrificing so much when they first moved to the UK from Kosovo when Rita was young, reports .uk. Singer Rita Ora says she wants to make loads of money so that her parents never have to work again.
